What is TCM consultation?
A consultation in a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) clinic is an important step in the treatment process, designed to understand your unique body constitution and establish an individualized care plan.
Understanding you:
The practitioner asks about your main health concerns, symptoms, medical history, current medications, dietary habits, lifestyle and stress levels. This helps identify both acute and chronic issues.
What to expect during a TCM consultation?
Pulse Diagnosis: Examination of the pulse to assess organ function and balance of Yin-Yang in the body.
Tongue Diagnosis: Inspection of tongue color, shape and coating.
Observation & Palpation: The practitioner may look at your complexion, eyes, posture, and may gently press areas of discomfort to gather further diagnostic information.
Differentiation of Syndromes: Using gathered information, the practitioner determines the underlying syndrome (such as Qi stagnation, blood deficiency, heat, dampness etc.) causing your symptoms.
Individualized Treatment Plan:
After diagnosis, you’ll receive a tailored treatment plan, which may include acupuncture, herbal medicine, tuina, cupping, moxibustion, lifestyle or dietary recommendations etc.
